Inspiration. The birth of the Michelozzo brand was inspired by our namesake, Michelozzo di Bartolomeo Michelozzi of Florence (1396 – 7 October 1472).

What is well-known is Michelozzo was one of the best architects and sculptors to have ever lived. Just as fascinating was his powerful influence on Florence’s style and fashion. Research into the historical archives and writings of his contemporaries showed that Michelozzo was the son of Florence’s most celebrated tailor. His unique access to his father’s renowned clothing workshop set the scene for Michelozzo to become one of the city’s best dressed men. He became a genuine style icon. Adorned by his father’s sartorial creations, Michelozzo was privileged to wear the finest bespoke clothing, with every piece especially tailored for him. Michelozzo’s sense of style established an enduring trend among Florentine’s elite class, which eventually permeated through all levels of society and contributed to Florence’s developing the reputation for boasting the most stylish and best dressed populace in Italy. Michelozzo wore elegant and stylish clothing that were created from the finest materials and fabrics. He was noted by diarists for being impeccably dressed in the finest European cotton, linen, silk, satin and velvet. He was the embodiment of dapper and style in the 15th century. Renaissance. Michelozzo one of Europe’s finest architects and sculptor. He left an extraordinary legacy of architectural and sculptural masterpieces through Florence and in museums across the world. In addition to his natural talents, Michelozzo was famed to being the most stylish and best dressed artist in the city of Florence. His fashion sense influenced the way his contemporaries such as Donatello, Brunelleschi and other celebrated artists and statesmen dressed and presented themselves in public. Michelozzo had the city’s most powerful man as his patron in Cosimo de Medici, who commissioned Michelozzo to design the imposing Palazzo de Medici, just a stone’s throws from the Duomo. The ruler of Florence, Cosimo de Medici, trusted Michelozzo’s judgement on style and taste, which are greatly valued as outstanding qualities in an artist. Michelozzo’s relationship with his patron, the patriarch of Florence, was best described by Angelo Fabroni in 1789, who said: “Cosimo loved Michelozzo dearly and relied on him, not only because of his natural talents (he considered nobody, not even Brunelleschi, superior in all architectural judgements), but also because of his good qualities and worthy character.”
